I left home on the 29th of August in 2018 to the Netherlands.

​

I am in the middle of the sea, which is a cow lying on a Dutch cheese and surroundings by those cows, which makes the Netherlands became famous for dairy products. I am confused about where am I going, where am I supposed to go, and where I want to go...but the only thing I know is that I am leaving the place that I am familiar with.

The ocean is a strong connection between me and my country, Taiwan.

Taiwan is an island that can be seen in the middle of the sea and has four types of different coastal. Our ancestors lived by the ocean. I love to go to the river, the baby of the ocean, or the origin of the ocean.

There are so many rivers that cut the mountains and make many canyons. They are so beautiful.

Every time I see them, the only thing I do is admire and be grateful for being born on this island. I went to a forest elementary school which can also call outside of the traditional Chinese education system when I was little. My school is located in the mountain. Next to us is a big, long, and wide river.

I love to go to the river, the place that I called my childhood.
There are so many memories fulfilled to the river. Those rocks, fish, branches are so peaceful. I liked to climb up and down around the big rock and sit or lie down on it, enjoying the sunshine, the heat, the warmth.

Those long strips in the background are miniature of the night market in Taiwan. For me, the night market is the thing that makes me feel at home. I miss home food so much...The picture of the night market in my mind is those lights and signboards. They are bright and colorful. I use blue, red, and yellow to represent the colorful. I want to create a feeling of a long and far space, which is infinite, so I use a one-point perspective. Those patterns are the view of Taipei, the capital of Taiwan. I don’t really know why I wanted to put them on, you know, sometimes just doesn’t have the reason.

I think most people will wonder what is the thing flowing above. Yes, if you might guess it is potato, people always say it is the shape of Taiwan. I mean Taiwanese usually draw Taiwan as a potato shape. Besides, I will look at the moon when I miss my home because I know the moon back home is always the same one.

Green, is weird, it is hard for me to explain to you. It’s a mess, a mystery, a feeling of all the things are mixed. The earth is an unknown place for me so far, even though I have already stepped outside of my comfort zone, I still don't know so many things. There are a lot of things that I am wondering, I am confused, I am curious...I want to get to know more...

 

“What is the world I am living?” is the question that I came up with after finishing this artwork.

Perhaps, I will name it, ”Green Potato.”
